How do I find my FMCSA PIN to file MCS-150 online?

FMCSA mails a PIN to the carrier's registered address shortly after USDOT issuance - a legacy credential from FMCSA's older systems. Online filing now runs through Motus at motus.dot.gov with a Login.gov sign-in. If you still need the PIN, request a replacement from FMCSA or call 800-832-5660; it typically arrives by mail within 7-10 business days.

The FMCSA PIN is the original authentication credential issued at USDOT registration. It comes by mail to the principal-place-of-business address on file. Older registrations (pre-2010 or so) often have lost PINs because the address has changed multiple times since the original mailing.

FMCSA's PIN replacement flow generates a replacement PIN and mails it to the address currently on file. Carriers whose address is also out of date should file the address change first (possible through Motus with a Login.gov sign-in), then request the PIN replacement.

For carriers without online access at all, the FMCSA call line at 800-832-5660 can verify identity through alternate means and either mail a PIN or process a manual filing over the phone. Wait times can be long during peak filing periods (typically late July through August for the IFTA-aligned filers and during the carrier's own due-month batch).

Most third-party filing services (Fast MCS-150, Fast UCR, others) maintain their own filing access for clients and do not require the carrier-side PIN to file. Using a service is the cleanest workaround for carriers locked out of their FMCSA account.
